Limited sittings — Limited remaining

A timed sitting with Gaetan. One plate, made by hand, start to finish, while you are in the room. You leave with the object the same day.
Arrive ten minutes early. Gaetan talks through the camera, the light and what the plate will do to your face.
The plate is poured and sensitised while you settle. The exposure is long, so you hold still for a few seconds.
The plate is developed in front of you. The image rises out of the black in about fifteen seconds.
The plate is washed, fixed and dried. You take the object home the same day. A digital scan follows by email.
Most people sit for themselves. Not everyone does.
One plate, one sitting. The most direct version of the process.
For an actor, a model, a musician, a parent. Booked in someone else's name and handed over as an object.
Couples, siblings, collaborators. One plate, both of you, held still together.
Designers and makers bring a new piece — a garment, jewellery, a prototype — and it is photographed on the plate.
Flowers, ceramics, an object that matters. Collodion reads texture and metal unlike anything digital.
Come for the chemistry. A historic photographic process, made in front of you, in a room in Stoke Newington.
Tell Gaetan what you have in mind when you book. Bring the garment, the object, the piece.

Portrait days are held at Interlude Studio in Stoke Newington — a daylight warehouse space with a pitched roof, rooflights, concrete floor and white walls.
The camera and the chemistry are set up in the main room. Plates are poured, exposed and developed a few steps from where you sit, so you see the portrait appear before you leave.
There is a kitchen and a lounge area to wait in. Nearest station and access details: [TBC].

Arrive ten minutes before your time so the plate can be poured while you settle. The exposure is long, so you will be asked to hold still for a few seconds. Plain, textured clothing reads well on collodion. If the sitting is about a garment, an object or a piece of your own work, bring it with you and tell Gaetan when you book.
