[GAETAN PORTRAIT]
Gaetan Bernede
Wet plate photographer
London
Gaetan Bernede is a London-based photographer and director working across fashion, jewellery and beauty. Trained in graphic design at Central Saint Martins, his image-making is grounded in visual and technical research and carried by conceptual thinking.
He works with the wet-plate collodion process, making individual photographic objects by hand. Each sitting involves preparing, exposing and developing the plate in real time.
He is also a framer, allowing selected portraits to leave the studio as complete physical pieces.
His work moves between editorial and commercial: campaigns, films and editorials.
